🎊 New Features & Fixes for September 10th, 2019 🎊

We're starting to roll out Data features, so here's the first set of many to come. Enjoy!

πŸ”Œ REST Data

Bring your own structured data into Draftbit apps! Now you can query endpoints from any REST API using the new Fetch component. Fetch can be found in the Add Components drawer, under Bits. For the launch of REST Data, Fetch supports Get queries. Create, Put, and Delete queries are coming soon.

Add a Fetch component and configure the JSON:

πŸ“‘ All New FlatLists

Lists are now more powerful in Draftbit! Make your own lists of Draftbit bits & blocks using the completely refactored List component. Lists and Fetch work best together. Place a List inside a Fetch component to route external data into items inside your custom list.

Attach real live data to Bits in a List:

πŸ› Bug Fixes & Issues

We've fixed a bunch of issues that should streamline your experience in Draftbit. From under-the-hood improvements to Bits and Blocks, to fixing issues when uploading assets with peculiar names, the Draftbit experience should be smoother than ever.

πŸš€ Publish

Now you can publish, save, and share your app with others! And when you publish, we generate a unique URL to your app so you can easily show off your progress. No installation required!

πŸ‘Ÿ External Actions

We've added new actions that enable you to open a website in-app and externally link outside of your app with any Button or Touchable in a project. If you want to open a browser inside your app, use WebBrowser. If you want to leave the app, use Linking. Linking allows you to open any of the following:

  • Email: Use mailto://joe@example.com to open an email using the default email client.
  • Telephone: Use tel://+12222222222 to initiate a call.
  • SMS: Use sms://+12222222222 to open a new sms message.
  • Web: Use https://example.com to open a website in the device's default browser.
  • Maps: Use maps:// to open maps
  • Any other app: (You just need to google for the URL schema).

πŸ› Bug Fixes & Issues

There have been persistent issues with random red screens popping up for people in our community. Sorry about that. With your help, we've been able identify and fix many of these issues. If you're continuing to experience red screens, please make sure to let us know via intercom, email, or slack.

🎊 *New Features & Fixes for June 21st 2019* 🎊

πŸ–₯New Web Preview

We've completely revamped how we're rendering the app preview in the browser! You can now see most Bits and Blocks on your screens fully rendered, and gone are the text and button display problems. We already have plans for improvements, but here are some things to note about the current experience:

- Real-time font style and icon rendering are in the works.

- At the moment, you need to use Live Preview to see Navigation working.

- The layer tree is the only way to select an element on your screens.

πŸ’Ύ Custom Blocks

Create and save your own components (or "Blocks") to re-use throughout your app. Click the save icon on any layer and give it a name. This saves that layer and any children of it as a Custom Block! Things to note:

- We're planning for improvements and support of more complicated blocks to use saved blocks.

- We're in the process of updating Draftbit Blocks to use this new format so in the future you will be able to easily customize and save them as your own blocks!

New Features & Fixes - June 10th, 2019

🌍 Navigation: Your most-requested feature is finally here! πŸŽ‰

Say farewell to manually setting up navigation in your exported code. Now, all it takes is a few clicks to add functional and beautiful navigation to your app.

ο»ΏHere's what you can do with Navigation right now:

  • 🎨 Create Switch, Stack, or Tab Navigators for your app (based on react-navigation).
  • ο»ΏπŸ‘€ Edit the appearance, behavior, and name of your Navigators.
  • ο»ΏπŸ“² Add app screens the Navigators, so they are available for Actions.
  • ⚑ Attach Navigate Actions to Buttons (and other Touchables) so users can navigate around your app!ο»Ώο»Ώ

To learn more, check out this quick guide to navigation, or read the navigation docs for more details.

And that's not all:

ο»ΏπŸ“– Documentation: We've also created a repository of info all about draftbit for your reference. Curious what is available, or how to do something? Check out https://docs.draftbit.com

ο»ΏπŸ› Bugs: And as usual, over the last month we've fixed a huge number of bugs. If you see any new ones, please let us know.

The next few weeks are going to be exciting: we've got some other amazing improvements coming soon, including a much improved browser-preview experience and our first addition of live data.

New Features & Fixes - May 2nd 2019

πŸŽ‰ We've rolled out some new features and fixes. Here's what's new as of May 2nd, 2019:

πŸŽ› We've started update the style and structure of the right-side configuration panel. The first version is live now, and we'll keep improving and adding to this over the next month or so.

βš’ We've also made a ton of updates & fixes to the left side layer tree. It should be much easier to drag and drop, move layers, etc. You can also name your layers now by clicking on the layer and editing its name inline.

πŸ“² We've added more screens to the template gallery. If you have ideas of screens we should have in the gallery, please let us know.

πŸŒ„ We've fixed up the carousel component. Check it out!

We're still working on a bunch of big features behind the scenes. We'll release more soon.

What's New as of April 19th, 2019

πŸŽ‰ We've rolled out some new features and fixes. Here's what's new as of April 19th, 2019:

πŸ“² Example Screens! We've added the ability to add screens to your projects from a gallery of examples (some might call them templates). While we only have about 15 screens so far, we plan to grow this every week from now on, so you'll start to see more and more screens to help you build faster.

⚑️Improved new app creation & live preview experience! We've made it much easier to get started with a new app and to get set up on live preview.

🎚Real tooltips. We've updated the tooltips for all of the configuration items on the right side of the screen assembler. So this should help if you're a bit unsure what something does. We're working on more documentation and howtos, coming soon!

πŸ’£ Bye Bugs. And as usual, we've fixed up some bugs, issues, and made some tweaks all throughout to make the experience better. If you find any that are still outstanding, please report them at https://feedback.draftbit.com

We're now actively working on a bunch of big features that we hope to roll out in the next month or two, so stay tuned. Thank you!
